RIMcopTec

The project aims to introduce in an industrial environment a new technology for Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) developed at FEUP - Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto.

RIMcop ® technology - with RIM and Pulse Oscillation Control - was developed at FEUP / LSRE (Laboratory of Separation and Reaction) as an enhancement to traditional RIM process.

The specifications of the molds for RIM  are different from molds for thermoplastics. In Portugal, the design and manufacture of molds are well formatted for the thermoplastics industry becoming uncompetitive in the national sector of molds for RIM.  RIMcopTEC aims to test the new technology RIMcop ® in molds designed and manufactured according to RIM specifications, introducing in national industry a specific know-how of molds for RIM through a manual of best practices.

Project activities to be developed are the following:

  • Design, specifications and configuration of technological solutions;
  • Acquisition and development of new knowledge and skills for development;
  • Testing and validation in an industrial environment;
  • Promotion and Dissemination of Results.
